Motorists, Residents Urge Ogun Government To Complete Mowe-Ofada Road Project

Motorists, commuters and residents have appealed to the Ogun State Government to expedite the completion of the second phase of the Mowe-Ofada Road reconstruction, citing growing transportation challenges and safety concerns along the corridor.

The appeal was made during separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday, where road users acknowledged the completion of the first section of the project but called for immediate work on the remaining stretch.

According to them, the unfinished section has become increasingly difficult to navigate, leading to prolonged traffic delays, frequent vehicle breakdowns and higher transportation costs for commuters, residents and businesses operating in the area.

A commercial driver, Johnson Fadeyi, said the deteriorating condition of the road, especially during the rainy season, had significantly reduced the number of trips he could make daily while increasing vehicle maintenance expenses.

He urged Governor Dapo Abiodun to urgently address the situation and provide a lasting solution to the road’s condition.

A commuter, Bimpe Olaitan, also lamented the hardship passengers endure due to the poor state of the road, particularly during peak traffic periods and heavy rainfall.

Similarly, transporter Kadiri Bala said the damaged section has slowed the movement of goods and services, negatively affecting businesses in Mowe, Ofada and neighbouring communities.

He appealed to the state government to prioritise the completion of the project, noting that the road would enhance economic activities and improve connectivity across the axis.

Also speaking, a resident, Pastor Sunday Famuyiwa, called on the relevant authorities to intensify palliative repairs on the failed portions pending the completion of the reconstruction.

While expressing confidence in the state’s commitment to infrastructure development, he stressed the need for swift intervention, saying the timely completion of the road would improve transportation, stimulate economic growth and enhance the quality of life for thousands of residents who depend on the route daily.
