NEDC To Boost Transportation With 1,000 Electric Vehicles In Adamawa
The North East Development Commission (NEDC) says it will supply no fewer than 1,000 electric vehicles, buses and tricycles to boost transportation at low cost in Adamawa.
Khalifa Mohammed, the NEDC’s coordinator in Adamawa, said this at a stakeholders meeting in Yola on Wednesday.
He said the vehicles would be charged electronically and would not demand engine oil and petroleum.
According to him, the commission will soon organise training for assembling and charging procedures, among others.
Mr Mohammed also said that as part of the commission’s plan to boost healthcare service delivery, it would introduce a vulnerable health insurance scheme in the state.
According to him, this will enable vulnerable people in society to access medical attention and drugs.
He added that the pilot project would be inaugurated in three local government areas, one in each senatorial district.
He said the commission had constructed solar-powered boreholes in various institutions and communities, currently installing solar-powered street lights.
”The solar street light will help in improving security situations in the community, among other benefits.
He said that the NEDC had impacted various sectors health, education, security, agriculture and capacity building, as well as skills acquisition training.
Mr Mohammed called on the benefiting communities to take ownership of their projects for maximum benefit.
He also appealed to media organisations to sensitise the public on the existence of the commission and its projects.
Humwashi Wonosikou, chief press secretary to Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri, assured that with this partnership, the narrative of NEDC in Adamawa would be different.
He acknowledged the contribution of NEDC in the state and tasked them to do more for the maximum benefit of the citizens.
Mr Wonosikou advised the coordinator to hold periodic review meetings with host communities and ensure that the commission continues to sponsor programmes toward achieving its objectives.
