NIMASA Pledges Reforms To Boost Nigeria’s Maritime Competitiveness

The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s maritime administration through sustained reforms, improved regulatory oversight and stronger collaboration with industry stakeholders.

The Director-General of NIMASA, Dr Dayo Mobereola, gave the assurance in Lagos while receiving the leadership of the Alumni Association of the Maritime Academy of Nigeria (AMANO) during a courtesy visit to the agency’s headquarters.

Mobereola said the agency remained focused on building an efficient, transparent and globally competitive maritime administration in line with the policy direction of the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy.

He said NIMASA would continue to promote innovation, strengthen regulatory oversight and create more opportunities for Nigerian seafarers.

“Our vision is to build a maritime administration that is efficient, transparent and globally competitive,” Mobereola said.

The NIMASA DG described the maritime sector as a major driver of Nigeria’s economic growth, stressing the importance of partnerships with industry associations in developing policies capable of unlocking the sector’s full potential.

Earlier, the President of AMANO, Emmanuel Maiguwa, commended NIMASA for introducing an electronic platform for the issuance of Seafarers’ Certificates.

Maiguwa described the initiative as a significant step towards improving efficiency, transparency and accessibility in the maritime sector.

He also stressed the importance of continued collaboration between NIMASA and maritime professionals to strengthen the industry and enhance opportunities for Nigerian seafarers.
