NiMet Secures ISO Certification For Three Nigerian Airports

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has secured ISO 9001:2015 certification for the provision of aeronautical meteorological services at three Nigerian airports — Yola, Osubi and Owerri.

NiMet disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday, saying the certification followed a directive by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, to ensure strict compliance with safety regulations and improve Nigeria’s standing with the World Meteorological Organisation and the International Civil Aviation Organisation.

According to the agency, the three airports successfully met the requirements of the ISO 9001:2015 quality management system following a third-party audit conducted by Certech Inc., Canada, between July 20 and 23, 2026.

NiMet said its products and services at the airports were found to conform to the international standard after the rigorous assessment.

The agency also disclosed that it had been recertified to the ISO 9001:2015 standard at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos; Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano; Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja; Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu; and Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa.

The certification, which is valid for three years, will be subject to annual surveillance and maintenance audits ahead of the next recertification exercise in 2029.

NiMet said the latest certification was particularly significant as it marked the first time its aeronautical meteorological products and services at Yola, Osubi and Owerri airports had undergone an audit for ISO 9001:2015 certification.

The agency said the revised certification covers meteorological services provided to the aviation industry across eight Nigerian international airports.

Speaking on the achievement, NiMet Director-General and Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Charles Anosike, commended the agency’s quality management team for its efforts, stressing that management would continue to work towards improving standards across all operational locations.

He said, “We are excited about this. Our Quality Management System team, led by Rotimi Adenubi, has been working round the clock to achieve this feat. We are not stopping here as management is focused on overall improvement of standards at all our operational locations.”
