NSIB, NCAA Partner To Strengthen Support For Air Crash Victims, Families

The Nigeria Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) and the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) have intensified efforts to strengthen support for victims of aircraft accidents and their families through a coordinated emergency response framework that aligns with international aviation standards.

The initiative was discussed at a meeting in Abuja between the National Family Assistance Committee, coordinated by the NSIB, and officials of the NCAA, with a focus on improving collaboration, capacity building and the implementation of Family Assistance programmes in Nigeria’s aviation sector.

Leading the NSIB delegation, the Director of Public Affairs and Family Assistance, Mrs. Funke Adebayo-Arowojobe, said the National Family Assistance Committee operates across the aviation, marine and rail sectors.

She explained that the collaboration with the NCAA is aimed at improving assistance to victims of aviation accidents and their families through effective coordination and strict compliance with the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) guidelines.

According to her, Family Assistance is a critical aspect of transportation safety, ensuring that affected families receive timely information, access to essential services and compassionate institutional support in the aftermath of an accident.

Responding, the NCAA Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mr. Michael Achimugu, reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to supporting the initiative and strengthening institutional cooperation.

Both agencies agreed to deepen collaboration through joint capacity-building programmes, stakeholder sensitisation and knowledge sharing to enhance Nigeria’s emergency preparedness and response to aviation accidents.
