Olota Cup 2024/2025 Kicks Off in Ota with Colourful Opening Ceremony
The 2024/2025 edition of the Olota Cup commenced on Monday, November 24, 2025, with a colourful opening ceremony that underscored the Awori Kingdom’s continued commitment to grassroots sports development and youth empowerment.
The Olota of Ota, His Majesty Professor Adeyemi Obalanlege, Ph.D., officially declared the competition open at the Bells University Stadium, Ota, Ogun State. The ceremony attracted a host of dignitaries, traditional rulers, academic leaders and sports stakeholders from within and outside the community.
In his address, the royal father commended the organisers, led by Mr. Olaniyi Akinbode, CEO and Publisher of Travellers Network Magazine, for sustaining the tournament and the Olota Marathon. He urged participating schools to view the event not just as a contest, but as an avenue to promote unity, nurture talent and build future careers in football. He also emphasised discipline and professionalism as core values for the youth.
Notable guests at the ceremony included the Vice Chancellor of Bells University, Prof. Jeremiah Ojediran; the Ota Area Commander, ACP Olusola Oladele; representatives of Oba (Barr.) Samuel Ojugbele, the Onilogbo of Ilogbo Asowo; Oba Clement Akinyemi, the Ajana of Ijana Ota; Aare Surv. Segun Osifeso (FNIS), Aare Atunluse of Aworiland; the Registrar of Bells University, Mr. Lamidi Tafa; and the Baale of Ipamesan Oke-Ota, Prince Jamiu Komolafe.
The opening matches produced the following results:
Female Category: Scholars School 0 – 2 Khafifat School
Male Category: Scholars School 0 – 2 Bells School
Special recognition was accorded to the Olota for his unwavering support and visionary leadership in promoting sports as a tool for youth development and community advancement.
The event further cemented the Olota Cup’s reputation as a unifying platform and a beacon of opportunity across Aworiland.
