Pedestrian Killed By Bus Along Imowo-Ibadan Road In Ogun
A pedestrian has died after being struck by a Toyota Coaster bus at Imowo, along the Imowo-Ibadan Road inward Ijebu Ode in Ogun State.
The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) confirmed that the fatal accident occurred around 4:45 p.m. on Sunday, causing heavy traffic congestion along the route due to obstruction by the bus.
According to the spokesperson for TRACE, Babatunde Akinbiyi, TRACE operatives and officers from the Obalende Police Division were immediately deployed to the scene to manage traffic and carry out rescue operations.
Eyewitnesses said the victim attempted to cross the road without checking for oncoming vehicles. Authorities also noted that ongoing road rehabilitation work along the axis had reduced traffic to a single lane outward Ijebu Ode.
“According to eyewitness account, the pedestrian forgot to check the other side of the road before crossing the road. There is diversion to one lane due to ongoing road rehabilitation on the axis,” Akinbiyi stated.
He added that no other injuries were recorded in the incident aside from the death of the male pedestrian.
TRACE officials reportedly controlled vehicular movement around the scene to ease congestion and prevent secondary accidents.
The victim’s body was evacuated by operatives and taken in an OGSAS ambulance to the General Hospital mortuary in Ijebu Ode.
Akinbiyi further disclosed that the accidented Toyota Coaster bus was later removed from the road and taken to the Police Area Command in Igbeba for further investigation.
The agency confirmed that normal vehicular movement had since been restored following the evacuation exercise.
