Police Launch Traffic Enforcement Operation in Akwa Ibom
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has commenced a statewide traffic enforcement exercise aimed at curbing road traffic violations, reducing crashes, and improving safety on roads across the state.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday in Uyo, saying the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to restore order on the state’s roads and protect the lives of motorists, passengers, and other road users.
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, will personally supervise the enforcement exercise to ensure strict compliance with traffic laws and regulations.
The police said the operation will focus on major traffic offences, including one-way driving, excessive speeding, the use of covered or concealed vehicle registration number plates, unlawful operation of motorcycles on restricted routes, as well as other traffic-related violations that endanger public safety.
John explained that the exercise is a proactive public safety initiative designed to prevent avoidable road accidents, improve traffic discipline, and ensure safer roads across the state. She stressed that the operation is not intended to harass law-abiding citizens but to encourage responsible road use and compliance with existing traffic regulations.
She warned that anyone found violating any of the identified traffic laws would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law, adding that the Command would not tolerate actions capable of putting the lives of road users at risk.
The Police Command, therefore, urged motorists, commercial drivers, tricycle operators, motorcycle riders, and other road users to obey traffic rules, avoid reckless driving, and cooperate with officers deployed for the exercise to ensure its success.
