President Tinubu Commissions Kuje Road, Vows End to Abandoned Projects

President Bola Tinubu on Thursday commissioned the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Highway 105, popularly known as the Kuje Road, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to completing inherited projects and expanding critical infrastructure across the country.

Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the inauguration ceremony, Tinubu described the completion of the six-lane dual carriageway linking the Airport Expressway to Kuje Township Junction as evidence of the government’s determination to deliver on its promises.

The project, originally awarded in 2022, had suffered significant delays before the current administration revived and completed it.

According to the President, the road had become a source of hardship for residents and businesses due to prolonged construction delays, resulting in traffic congestion, dust pollution during the dry season and muddy conditions during the rainy season.

“The present administration does not inherit problems to abandon them. We inherit challenges to solve them,” Tinubu said.

He noted that the highway would boost economic activities in Kuje and surrounding communities by improving connectivity, reducing travel time, increasing property values and attracting new investments. The road is also expected to facilitate the transportation of agricultural produce from rural areas to urban markets.

Tinubu commended the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, for his role in ensuring the project’s completion, describing him as a performer whose results speak for themselves.

The President also praised the contractors for delivering the project to the required standards and thanked residents for their patience throughout the construction period.

He urged residents, community leaders and youths in Kuje to protect the infrastructure from vandalism and misuse, stressing the importance of preserving public assets for future generations.

Tinubu further called on residents, developers and business owners in the FCT to fulfil their tax and statutory obligations, including the payment of ground rents and land charges, to support the execution of similar projects in other satellite towns.

Earlier, Wike said the 11-kilometre road would significantly ease traffic congestion and improve socio-economic activities in Kuje and neighbouring communities.

The minister disclosed that although the contract was awarded on February 4, 2022, at a cost of over N54 billion, no contractor was on site when the current administration assumed office. He attributed the project’s completion to the shared commitment of the Tinubu administration and the FCT leadership.

Also speaking, Minister of State for the FCT, Dr Mariya Mahmoud, described the road project as a major achievement under the Renewed Hope Agenda, noting that it would enhance mobility, stimulate economic growth and improve the quality of life of residents.

She called on residents to continue supporting initiatives aimed at promoting regional development and strengthening the socio-economic prosperity of the FCT.
