Zulum Commissions Flyover, 2.5km Road, Drainage Project In Maiduguri
Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has commissioned the newly constructed Post Office nine-span flyover and a dualised 2.5-kilometre road linking Budum Junction through Kasuwan Shanu to the NIETAL shoe factory express road in Maiduguri, the state capital.
The projects, which also include a five-kilometre drainage network, form part of the state government’s ongoing urban renewal and infrastructure development initiatives aimed at improving transportation, easing traffic congestion and stimulating economic activities across the city.
The commissioning ceremony on Sunday was marked by the symbolic cutting of the tape by Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, who served as the special guest of honour.
The Post Office nine-span flyover is the fourth flyover constructed by the Zulum administration as part of efforts to address traffic challenges and expand Maiduguri’s road infrastructure.
The latest projects add to several kilometres of road networks executed by the administration across Borno State, with the government maintaining that improved road connectivity remains critical to the movement of people, goods and services.
Speaking at the commissioning, Governor Sule commended Zulum for sustaining infrastructure development despite the security challenges that have confronted Borno State for years.
He described the projects as evidence of purposeful leadership and determination to provide infrastructure capable of meeting the needs of residents.
Sule said the development of road infrastructure would contribute significantly to improving the quality of life of residents while creating an environment that supports economic growth.
He also praised the Borno government for continuing to invest in development despite the enormous challenges associated with the insurgency.
In his remarks, Governor Zulum said his administration remained committed to closing the infrastructure gap in the state, stressing that the newly commissioned road and flyover were conceived not merely as beautification projects but as critical infrastructure for improving mobility and supporting economic activities.
According to him, the dualised 2.5-kilometre road from Budum Tandari Junction to Kasuwan Shanu, together with the five-kilometre drainage network, was designed to facilitate smoother movement within the city while addressing associated drainage and flooding challenges.
Zulum said the projects formed part of the broader rebuilding efforts of his administration following years of destruction caused by insurgency.
He noted that the reconstruction and expansion of infrastructure remained essential to restoring normalcy, strengthening urban development and creating better living conditions for residents.
The governor added that Borno’s rebuilding process was continuing, with his administration determined to sustain investments that would support the state’s long-term development and economic recovery.
