Residents Applaud Oborevwori As 4.8km Emevor-Orogun Road Project Nears Completion
Residents of Emevor and neighbouring communities in Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State have commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori following the completion of Phase II of the 4.8-kilometre Emevor-Orogun Road project executed by indigenous construction firm, Emorock Concepts Limited.
The commendation came during an inspection visit to the project site by the Delta State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, who expressed satisfaction with the quality and pace of work.
Aniagwu said the project represents another milestone in the implementation of Governor Oborevwori’s M.O.R.E Agenda, particularly its focus on infrastructure development and improving the living standards of rural communities.
He noted that the road, upon completion, would boost economic activities, improve transportation and enhance connectivity among communities in the area.
The commissioner praised Emorock Concepts Limited for delivering a quality project, describing the company as an example of the capacity and technical competence of indigenous contractors in handling major infrastructure projects.
According to him, the standard of work executed by the firm has justified the confidence placed in local contractors by the state government, adding that several indigenous companies working on projects across Delta have continued to demonstrate professionalism and commitment to quality delivery.
Aniagwu explained that the construction involved extensive engineering works, including major earthworks, drainage construction and replacement of unsuitable soil materials along swampy sections of the road corridor.
He disclosed that specialised equipment, including swamp buggies, was deployed to tackle difficult terrain and ensure compliance with approved engineering standards.
The commissioner commended the contractor for completing critical earthworks and stone base construction before the peak of the rainy season, noting that the early completion helped sustain progress on the project despite challenging weather conditions.
He, however, directed the contractor to immediately address some outstanding works, including the desilting of blocked drainage channels, completion of concrete works at discharge points and replacement of a few damaged concrete slabs.
Aniagwu warned residents against obstructing drainage channels with sand or other materials, stressing that such actions could affect water flow and reduce the lifespan of the road.
He added that road markings and other finishing touches would be completed before the project is formally presented for commissioning by Governor Oborevwori.
The commissioner also recounted the appreciation expressed by residents during the inspection, including a visually impaired community member who praised the smoothness of the road and its impact on transportation in the area.
He assured residents that the state government would continue to execute more rural road projects aimed at opening up communities, improving livelihoods and promoting sustainable development.
The Project Director of Emorock Concepts Limited, Engr. Oghale Agelebe, thanked the Delta State Government and host communities for their support, assuring that all observations raised during the inspection would be addressed before the commissioning of the project.
Agelebe acknowledged the difficult nature of the terrain but said cooperation from the state government and the Isi-Emevor communities enabled the company to complete the project within the scheduled timeframe.
