Sanwo-Olu Flags Off 670m Adebayo-Akinade Road In Ikorodu

The Lagos State Government has commenced the construction of the 670-metre Adebayo-Akinade Road in Igbogbo-Baiyeku Local Council Development Area of Ikorodu.

The project was officially flagged off on Wednesday on behalf of the state Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, by the Special Adviser on Rural Development, Nurudeen Agbaje.

Agbaje said the project formed part of the administration’s broader intervention in rural communities aimed at improving infrastructure, stimulating economic activities and reducing the pressure that drives residents from rural areas to urban centres.

He explained that the government was deploying infrastructure development to open up rural communities and create an enabling environment for businesses and other economic activities to thrive.

According to him, the Adebayo-Akinade Road project comes shortly after the approval of six other road projects in Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Area and Ifelodun LCDA.

He appealed to residents and community stakeholders to protect the construction site and avoid activities that could hinder the contractor’s work, while urging the contractor to deliver the project within the stipulated time and according to the required standards.

Stakeholders in the area welcomed the project, describing it as another step towards the development of Ikorodu and its surrounding communities.

The member representing Ikorodu Constituency II, Aro Moshood, commended the Sanwo-Olu administration for what he described as an inclusive approach to development, particularly its focus on improving infrastructure in communities previously considered rural.

Moshood said the government had approved more than seven critical road projects in Ikorodu over the past seven years, adding that the projects had created economic opportunities and improved connectivity for residents.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, Kikelomo Bolarinwa, said sustained investment in roads and other social infrastructure had contributed to improved economic activities and living conditions in rural communities.

The Chairman of Igbogbo-Baiyeku LCDA, Olalekan Aroyewun, said the project further demonstrated the state government’s commitment to developing the Ikorodu Division.

He added that the cumulative impact of the various projects was making Ikorodu increasingly attractive to residents and investors.

The Chairman of Odera Community Development Association, Prof. Noah Imodu, described the road project as more than a transport infrastructure intervention, saying it would improve accessibility, safety, security and economic opportunities for residents.

He assured the government of the community’s cooperation with the contractor and relevant agencies to ensure the timely completion of the project.

The Adebayo-Akinade Road is one of several road projects recently launched by the Office of Rural Development across Lagos.

Other projects include the 560-metre Isikalu Road, 270-metre Odofin Road, 320-metre Alayabiagba Road and 250-metre Cemetery Road in Ajeromi-Ifelodun, as well as the 320-metre Asubiojo Road and 115-metre Owoseni Road in Ifelodun LCDA.
