Two Killed In Ogun Auto Crash As FRSC Blames Speeding

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun State Sector Command, has confirmed the death of two persons in a road crash that occurred at Leme along the Abeokuta–Ibadan Expressway.

According to the command’s spokesperson, Superintendent Route Commander (SRC) Afolabi Odunsi, the crash, which occurred at about 5:45 p.m. on Monday, involved a black Lexus car with registration number KJA 398 JR and a black TVS motorcycle with registration number AYT 837 QU.

Odunsi disclosed that six adult male occupants were involved in the crash, with two fatalities recorded while no injuries were reported.

He explained that FRSC rescue personnel received a distress call at about 5:50 p.m. and arrived at the scene within five minutes to commence rescue operations.

The FRSC attributed the crash to excessive speed, warning that speed violations remain a major cause of fatal road accidents across the country.

The corps said the bodies of the deceased were evacuated to the State Hospital, Ijaye Mortuary, while personal belongings recovered at the scene, including an identity card and a Tecno mobile phone, were secured.

Odunsi added that the obstruction caused by the crash had been cleared, restoring the free flow of traffic along the highway.

Reacting to the incident, the Ogun State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, expressed condolences to the families of the victims and urged motorists, particularly drivers and motorcyclists, to obey speed limits and avoid reckless driving.

He stressed that excessive speed reduces drivers’ reaction time and increases the severity of crashes, reaffirming the FRSC’s commitment to improving road safety through sustained enforcement, public education and prompt emergency response services.
