FRSC Launches Special Patrol To Reduce Highway Crashes In North-West

The Federal Road Safety Corps has launched a special intervention patrol, codenamed “Daidaita Lodi” (Load Limit), to curb road traffic crashes along the Sokoto-Gusau highway and other major roads across Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states.

The initiative was inaugurated on Monday in Sokoto by the Zonal Commanding Officer of RS10 Headquarters, Assistant Corps Marshal Shoba Akande, as part of a nationwide road safety intervention approved by the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed. The operation is being implemented simultaneously across the FRSC’s 12 zonal commands to address region-specific road safety challenges.

Speaking during the launch, Akande said the patrol would focus on strengthening traffic law enforcement, public awareness campaigns, stakeholder engagement, rescue preparedness and increased operational visibility to reduce crashes and save lives.

He explained that the “Daidaita Lodi” campaign was specifically designed to tackle traffic offences responsible for avoidable road crashes and fatalities, with particular attention to overloading and other dangerous driving practices.

Representing Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu at the event, the Commissioner for Transport, Alhaji Bala Kokani, urged motorists and transport operators to obey traffic regulations, stressing that road safety is a shared responsibility requiring the commitment of government, transport stakeholders and road users.

Kokani commended the FRSC leadership for introducing the intervention, expressing confidence that it would improve road safety and reduce crashes across the zone.

Also speaking, the Iyan Sokoto, Alhaji Aminu Dodo, who represented the Sultan of Sokoto, pledged the continued support of the Sultanate Council for the FRSC’s road safety campaigns.

He called on transport unions to cooperate with the corps to ensure safer and more orderly transportation across the region.

In his vote of thanks, the Zonal Head of Operations, Corps Commander A.Y. Rafi, appreciated the Corps Marshal for approving the special intervention and commended the zonal command for ensuring its successful launch.

The RS10 Zone covers Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states, where the operation is expected to strengthen enforcement against traffic violations and improve safety for all road users.
