Uba Sani Begins Reconstruction Of Abandoned Binawa Bridge In Kaduna

Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has inaugurated the reconstruction of the long-abandoned Binawa Bridge in Kauru Local Government Area, with the project expected to reconnect communities and boost economic activities.

The bridge, which had been abandoned for more than 14 years, links Mariri, Geshere, Binawa and other communities in the area.

Sani, represented by the Senator representing Kaduna South Senatorial District, Sunday Marshall Katung, performed the groundbreaking ceremony in Binawa, describing the project as a significant infrastructure intervention that would improve connectivity and ease transportation difficulties faced by residents.

Katung said the reconstruction marked the beginning of further development initiatives in the area. He also expressed optimism that the government would consider the long-awaited reconstruction of the Kibangari Bridge.

He urged residents to support the state government’s development efforts, noting that the project would improve access to markets, schools and healthcare facilities while facilitating socioeconomic activities across the affected communities.

The senator also called on traditional rulers, youths and security agencies to strengthen collaboration in addressing insecurity and sustaining peace in the area.

Earlier, the Managing Director of the Kaduna State Roads Agency, Dr Abdullahi Baba Ahmad, said the reconstructed bridge would ease the movement of residents, agricultural produce and essential services.

He explained that the project would improve access to essential facilities, support local businesses and strengthen social and economic ties among neighbouring communities.

Baba Ahmad assured residents that the agency would ensure strict adherence to engineering standards, with emphasis on quality, durability and timely completion.

Also speaking, the member representing Kauru/Chawai Federal Constituency, Zakari Haruna Chawai, commended the state government for the intervention, describing the bridge as an important infrastructure project for the local government.

Chawai said the reconstruction was expected to be completed within two to three months and urged residents to cooperate with the government to ensure the successful execution of the project.

In his remarks, the District Head of Kumana, Samaila Yanaba, praised the government for addressing the longstanding problem caused by the bridge’s abandonment.

Some residents who attended the ceremony expressed appreciation to the government, saying the collapse of the bridge had severely disrupted transportation and socioeconomic activities within and outside their communities.

They expressed hope that the reconstruction would restore vital connections, ease the movement of people and goods, and improve economic opportunities across the area.
