VIS Impounds 38 Buses Over Illegal BRI Operations

The Lagos State Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS) has impounded 38 buses for allegedly operating under the Bus Reform Initiative (BRI) without the required licences and official approval.

The vehicles were seized during an enforcement operation carried out along the Island route, covering the Ajah-to-Sura corridor, according to information released by the Information Department of the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation over the weekend.

The affected buses were reportedly operating under the BRI programme without the necessary authorisation from the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), which oversees the regulation and coordination of the state’s transport system.

The enforcement exercise forms part of the Lagos State Government’s efforts to strengthen compliance with approved regulations governing commercial transportation and ensure that operators conduct their activities within the established legal framework.

The ministry urged commercial transport operators across the state to comply strictly with existing transport regulations and obtain the required licences and approvals before operating.

It further warned that operators found violating the rules would face appropriate sanctions in line with relevant regulations.

The government’s latest enforcement action underscores its continued focus on regulating commercial transport operations and promoting orderliness within Lagos’ public transportation system.
