27 Motorists Prosecuted For Traffic Offences In Jigawa

The Jigawa State Police Command has prosecuted 27 motorists arrested for allegedly violating various traffic regulations across the state.

The motorists were apprehended during the ongoing Operation Velvet, an enforcement initiative aimed at improving road safety and ensuring compliance with traffic laws.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shiisu Lawan Adam, disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists on Sunday.

According to him, the offences committed by the motorists included overloading, driving without valid licences and using unauthorised tinted permits, among other violations.

He said the vehicles involved were impounded in accordance with the law, while the suspects were subsequently arraigned before the appropriate courts.

The Commissioner of Police in Jigawa State, CP Tijjani Murtala, said the enforcement operation was not targeted at any individual or group but was designed to promote discipline among motorists and protect lives and property.

Murtala urged motorists to always carry valid driver’s licences, avoid overloading and ensure that their vehicles meet registration and roadworthiness requirements.

He also cautioned motorists against using unauthorised tinted permits, stressing that all road users must operate within the provisions of the law.

The command said Operation Velvet would continue and be expanded to major towns, highways, feeder roads and other strategic locations across the state.

It urged members of the public to cooperate with police officers and other relevant agencies during the exercise, assuring law-abiding motorists that they had nothing to fear.
