Dr. Segun Alabi Appointed Head of Communications and Media for Omi Eko Project

OLORUNDARE ENIMOLA, Lagos

The Omi Eko Project, a €410 million initiative aimed at transforming water transportation across Lagos State, has appointed Dr. Segun Alabi as its new Head of Communications and Media.

The appointment was announced by the Special Adviser on Blue Economy to the Governor of Lagos State and Project Coordinator, Mr. Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, who expressed confidence in Dr. Alabi’s ability to effectively lead the project’s communications and media engagements.

He described Dr. Alabi as a seasoned corporate affairs professional with extensive experience across multiple sectors.

In his new role, Dr. Alabi will be responsible for developing and implementing strategic communication plans, managing media relations, and promoting the vision, goals, and sustainability objectives of the Omi Eko Project.

Mr. Emmanuel noted that Dr. Alabi’s professional background spans pay television, financial services, real estate, manufacturing, and business membership organisations, adding that his diverse experience positions him well to support the project’s public engagement efforts.

Prior to his appointment, Dr. Alabi served as Assistant Director, Corporate Affairs and Communications at the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), where he oversaw corporate communications, public affairs, and event management.

His areas of expertise include reputation management, government and stakeholder relations, corporate social responsibility, public policy advocacy, and social media strategy.

Reacting to his appointment, Dr. Alabi described the opportunity as a significant professional milestone, expressing optimism about contributing to the success of the project. He said the task ahead, while demanding, is achievable with commitment and teamwork.

Dr. Alabi holds a doctorate degree in English from the University of Lagos, specialising in Language Use and Communication.

The Omi Eko Project is a sustainable water transport initiative designed to reduce traffic congestion in Lagos by harnessing the state’s vast but underutilised waterways.

Supported by the European Union and private sector partners, the project is expected to enhance efficient and environmentally friendly urban mobility across the metropolis.
