A’Ibom Airport Soon To Commence International Flight Operations
Governor Umo Eno has declared that Akwa Ibom State is on course to commence international flight operations at the Victor Attah International Airport, as part of his administration’s effort to boost the state’s aviation and economic prospects.
Speaking to Government House Correspondents Tuesday, after an inspection of the airport’s neo-terminal and a review meeting, the Governor said his administration is fast-tracking critical requirements outlined by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority to ensure seamless take-off of international operations.
He noted that while significant progress has been made, a few gaps identified during the inspection are receiving urgent attention to meet regulatory standards within the projected timeline.
“I assess that work is in progress. To open an airport, we need all of the details, and that is what we are doing now. We are moving, as you can see for yourself. The gaps that have been identified, we are closing them,” the Governor said.
Governor Eno acknowledged minor delays linked to the importation of specialised aviation equipment but maintained that such setbacks have not derailed the overall schedule.
“Some of this equipment is coming in from outside the country. There are a few delays due to several things, but generally, I can tell you we are on track,” he added.
The Governor also called on the Managing Director of Ibom Air, George Uriesi, to leverage industry expertise in supporting the vision of transforming the airport into a regional aviation hub.
He expressed optimism that the planned commencement of international flights at VAIA will enhance connectivity, attract investment, and position Akwa Ibom as a key gateway in Nigeria’s aviation landscape.
