Customs Unveils New Airport Clearance System To Reduce Delays

The Nigeria Customs Service has introduced a new operational clearance system aimed at reducing delays and improving processing efficiency at airports across the country.

The initiative is expected to ease congestion at airport entry points by streamlining inspection procedures, documentation processes, and coordination among agencies operating within the aviation sector.

According to officials, the upgraded system is designed to enhance digital processing, minimise manual bottlenecks, and improve service delivery for both passengers and cargo operators.

The reform is also aimed at promoting transparency in customs operations while reducing waiting time for inbound travellers and imported goods.

Stakeholders in the aviation and trade sectors have welcomed the development, noting that persistent delays at airport clearance points have negatively affected logistics planning, business operations, and passenger experience over the years.

The Customs Service stated that the new system forms part of broader efforts to modernise its operations in line with global best practices and strengthen efficiency across Nigeria’s entry points.

Industry analysts believe that effective implementation of the initiative could improve Nigeria’s ease of doing business ranking and enhance efficiency in air cargo handling operations.

The latest move adds to ongoing reforms within the country’s port and border management system as authorities continue efforts to balance security measures with faster trade facilitation.
