FG Flags Off Tungan Madaki-Abuja-Kaduna Expressway Link Road
The Federal Government on Monday flagged off the construction of an access road linking Tungan Madaki Community to the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway, describing the project as a key step towards improving connectivity and expanding development to satellite communities within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
President Bola Tinubu, represented by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, performed the groundbreaking ceremony, saying the project aligns with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda of using infrastructure to drive economic growth and improve citizens’ livelihoods.
The new road is an extension of the Bill Clinton Drive–Tungan Madaki Road, which was commissioned a few weeks ago as part of activities marking the third anniversary of the Tinubu administration.
According to the President, the road will transform what began as a single access route into a broader transport network capable of stimulating economic activities across the corridor.
He noted that residents of Tungan Madaki, Zuba and neighbouring communities—many of whom are farmers, traders and students—have endured years of poor road infrastructure, particularly during the rainy season when access becomes difficult, agricultural produce is lost before reaching markets and transportation costs increase.
Tinubu said the new road would provide a direct link to the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway, reduce travel time and vehicle operating costs, while improving the movement of people and agricultural produce.
He added that the project would strengthen food supply chains, support rural businesses, improve security response and encourage investment in housing, education, healthcare and industrial development.
“Infrastructure is not just concrete and asphalt; it is the bridge between potential and prosperity,” the President said, adding that the project would also ease traffic pressure within the Abuja city centre by providing alternative routes for commuters and strengthening the economic corridor between the FCT, Kaduna and the North-West.
Tinubu commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and the FCT Administration for accelerating infrastructure delivery and prioritising projects with direct impact on residents.
He urged the contractor to maintain high construction standards, complete the project on schedule and maximise the use of local labour during execution.
Speaking earlier, Wike said the project reflects the administration’s commitment to extending infrastructure development beyond Abuja’s city centre to satellite towns and area councils.
He explained that the road project followed a request by the Chairman of the Gwagwalada Area Council after the council elections for a direct road connecting Tungan Madaki to the Abuja-Kaduna Highway.
According to the minister, the road will provide residents of Zuba with a shorter route into Abuja without passing through Gwagwalada and also improve access to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport for communities along the corridor.
Wike thanked President Tinubu and the National Assembly for supporting infrastructure development in the FCT and expressed confidence that the contractor, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), would complete the project in time for commissioning by December.
He described the road as “a Christmas gift” to residents of Tungan Madaki, Zuba and surrounding communities, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to delivering infrastructure across all parts of the FCT.
