Ogun Targets November Groundbreaking For Deep-Sea Port, Approves J4-Gao Road

The Ogun State Government has fixed November 2026 for the groundbreaking ceremony of its proposed Deep-Sea Port, with construction expected to commence before the end of the year and completion projected for 2030.

Governor Dapo Abiodun disclosed this on Wednesday at an All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders’ engagement meeting in Ibiade, the headquarters of Ogun Waterside Local Government Area.

The governor said the project, alongside other strategic investments, including a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) facility, would transform Ogun Waterside into a major hub for maritime activities, energy, logistics and international trade.

According to Abiodun, the projects are expected to generate more than 50,000 direct jobs and create additional employment opportunities across sectors such as transportation, construction, manufacturing, hospitality and other service-related industries.

He attributed the planned investments to his administration’s efforts to establish an enabling environment for businesses and attract large-scale investments into the state.

Abiodun urged youths in Ogun Waterside to acquire relevant skills and competencies to position themselves for employment and other economic opportunities that would emerge from the projects.

“These projects will change the economic fortunes of Ogun Waterside. Our young people must begin to prepare themselves now to take advantage of the opportunities that will come with these investments,” he said.

The governor noted that the Deep-Sea Port would complement the state’s expanding industrial base and strengthen its strategic position within the Lagos-Ogun economic corridor.

He also approved the construction of the J4-Gao Road in Ogun Waterside, describing the project as a critical intervention to improve accessibility and support the anticipated growth in economic activities across the area.

Abiodun lamented the prolonged neglect of Ogun Waterside by successive administrations, stressing that the new road project was informed by the area’s growing importance to the state’s economic and industrial development.

He further disclosed that the Federal Government had approved the construction of a four-kilometre bridge linking Ogun Waterside to the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.

According to him, the proposed bridge would improve connectivity and complement other infrastructure projects planned for the area, including the Gateway Deep-Sea Port and the LNG facility.

The governor expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for supporting the port and other strategic projects, noting that their implementation would position Ogun State as a leading destination for energy, maritime and international trade.

He said the investments would also strengthen the state’s industrial capacity while expanding opportunities for residents and businesses.

Abiodun, however, urged residents and APC members in the area to maintain unity and support the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He called on party members to intensify mobilisation efforts and support APC candidates at all levels, from the presidential election to the State House of Assembly.

At the meeting, the APC Presidential and Governorship Campaign Director-General, Senator Lekan Mustapha, urged residents to protect the development gains recorded in the area under the APC-led administration.

Mustapha cautioned against political decisions that could undermine ongoing development efforts and encouraged residents to remain committed to the party ahead of the 2027 elections.

Similarly, a former Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Segun Awonusi, commended Abiodun for his role in driving development in Ogun Waterside.

Awonusi expressed confidence that residents would reciprocate the administration’s interventions with increased support for the APC in the forthcoming elections.
