Ogun Police Arrest Suspected Railway Vandal, Recover 16 Railway Rods

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 36-year-old man, Shobande Taofeek, over the alleged vandalism and theft of railway infrastructure in the Arigbajo area of the state.

The arrest, carried out by operatives of the command’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit, also led to the recovery of 16 railway rods and two gas cylinders suspected to have been stolen.

The command’s spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement, explaining that the arrest followed intelligence reports about the vandalism and disappearance of railway materials in the area.

According to him, SWAT operatives intensified surveillance and patrols in the affected location on October 23, 2026, leading to the arrest of the suspect.

Babaseyi said the suspect subsequently led the operatives to an uncompleted building where the allegedly stolen items were recovered as exhibits.

He added that preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect allegedly confessed to participating in similar offences on three previous occasions.

The police spokesperson noted that efforts were ongoing to apprehend other individuals believed to be connected with the crime and recover additional stolen property.

The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Bode Ojajuni, reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting public assets, safeguarding critical infrastructure and ensuring that those responsible for economic sabotage are brought to justice.

The command also urged residents to support law enforcement efforts by providing timely and credible information that could help prevent crime and strengthen security across the state.

The police said cooperation between residents and security agencies remained essential to protecting public infrastructure and ensuring safer communities.
