NUC Approves Aviation Management, Aerospace Engineering Programmes For Baze University

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved two new undergraduate programmes in Aviation Management and Aerospace Engineering at Baze University, Abuja, beginning from the 2026/2027 academic session.

The approval marks a significant step in the university’s efforts to expand its academic offerings in aviation and aerospace education, alongside the ongoing development of a dedicated Aviation School on an over 88-hectare site in Bwari, Federal Capital Territory.

The approval was conveyed in a letter dated October 16, 2026, and signed by Dr Ayuba Mohammed, Acting Director of Academic Planning at the NUC. It authorises the university to run both programmes on a full-time basis at its main campus in Abuja.

According to the commission, the approval followed a resource verification exercise conducted by a panel of experts to assess the human and material resources available for the proposed programmes. The panel also inspected the university’s Aviation School project in Bwari before submitting its report for consideration.

The Executive Secretary of the NUC, Professor Abdullahi Yusuf Ribadu, subsequently approved the establishment of the programmes after reviewing the panel’s findings.

Under the new arrangement, Aviation Management will be domiciled in the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences, while Aerospace Engineering will be offered under the Faculty of Engineering.

The introduction of the programmes is expected to broaden opportunities for undergraduate education in specialised fields that support aviation operations, technological innovation and the development of the aerospace industry.

The development also complements Baze University’s ongoing investment in its Aviation School in Bwari, which is reportedly at an advanced stage of development. The facility is expected to strengthen the institution’s capacity to provide specialised aviation education and training through dedicated infrastructure.

Although the NUC’s approval specifically authorises the two degree programmes to operate at the university’s main campus, the Aviation School project represents a separate but complementary component of its broader investment in the sector. The operation of programmes and facilities at the specialised site remains subject to the relevant regulatory approvals.

The simultaneous expansion of academic programmes and aviation infrastructure reflects the university’s ambition to establish a stronger presence in aviation-related education and develop graduates equipped with the knowledge and skills required in the industry.

The programmes are scheduled to commence in the 2026/2027 academic session, adding to the university’s efforts to respond to emerging professional and technological needs through specialised higher education.
