Rotary Club Of Iyana-Iyesi Targets N25.7m For Community Projects
OLORUNDARE ENIMOLA, Lagos
The Rotary Club of Iyana-Iyesi, Ota, Ogun State, has unveiled an ambitious humanitarian agenda for the 2026/2027 Rotary year, setting a fundraising target of ₦25.7 million to execute education, sanitation and infrastructure projects aimed at improving the welfare of residents within its host community.
The commitment was announced on Saturday during the investiture of Rotarian Otunba Bosede James as the club’s sixth president and the inauguration of new board members at LHS Hall, Ota.
Speaking after his installation, James said his administration would align its programmes with Rotary International’s seven areas of focus while pursuing sustainable projects capable of delivering lasting impact. He disclosed that the club’s flagship intervention would focus on rehabilitating facilities at Iyesi High School, including renovation of students’ toilets, repairs to leaking roofs in staff quarters and the provision of classroom furniture to create a more conducive learning environment.
He added that the administration also plans to promote basic education and literacy, strengthen maternal healthcare initiatives, expand membership and pursue the long-term goal of establishing a permanent Rotary clubhouse that would serve as a vocational training and community service centre.
The club’s Charter President, Rotarian Olaniyan Sunday, described the organisation’s six-year journey as progressive and urged members to remain committed to humanitarian service, stressing that Rotary’s success should be measured by the positive impact made on communities rather than financial gains. He encouraged the new president to demonstrate proactive leadership and dedicate his time, talent and resources to advancing the club’s mission.
Guest speaker and Past President of the Rotary Club of Ilaro, Engr. Gbenga Soyemi, challenged Rotarians to move beyond executing projects to ensuring their long-term sustainability. According to him, the true value of Rotary service lies in maintaining projects so they continue benefiting communities long after their commissioning.
Also speaking, a past president of the club, Dr. Musa Isiaka, advised the new leadership to embrace consultation, inclusiveness and unity, noting that collective decision-making remains critical to organisational growth and effective service delivery.
Meanwhile, newly inducted member Engr. Oyewole Sunday, an Engineering Technician with Nestlé Nigeria Plc, said he joined Rotary because of its commitment to selfless service, ethical values and inclusiveness. He pledged to champion educational initiatives that promote character development and provide children with opportunities to become responsible members of society.
The ceremony attracted Rotarians, community leaders, guests and supporters who pledged continued collaboration towards expanding Rotary’s humanitarian impact across Ogun State.
