Ebola: FAAN Urges Calm, Heightened Vigilance At Nigerian Airports
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has urged passengers, airport users, airlines and other stakeholders to remain calm, vigilant and cooperative with health officials following the confirmation of an Ebola Virus Disease case in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The authority said it was working with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), Port Health Services, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and other relevant agencies to support ongoing efforts to contain the disease.
FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Henry Agbebire, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, assuring the public that the authority had strengthened vigilance across airport operations.
Agbebire said FAAN would continue to coordinate with public health authorities and align its response with further guidance to protect passengers, airport personnel and the wider public.
He noted that the early identification of the case and the commencement of contact tracing highlighted the importance of established public health protocols, effective surveillance and collaboration among relevant agencies in responding to potential health threats.
According to him, FAAN remains committed to supporting additional measures considered necessary by public health authorities to safeguard airport users and ensure the continued safe operation of airports across the country.
The authority also advised members of the public to rely on verified information from credible sources and avoid spreading unconfirmed reports that could cause unnecessary panic.
FAAN reiterated its readiness to work closely with relevant government agencies to protect public health while maintaining safe and efficient airport operations amid ongoing containment efforts.
