FRSC Dispatches 19,560 Pairs Of Number Plates To FCT Amid Delay Complaints

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has disclosed that it dispatched 19,560 pairs of motor vehicle number plates to the Directorate of Road Traffic Services in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in October 2026, following complaints by motorists over delays in obtaining the plates.

The Corps said the deliveries were made in two batches, with 15,205 pairs dispatched on October 8 and another 4,355 pairs delivered on October 20.

The FRSC disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday by its Corps Public Education Officer, Osondu Ohaeri, in response to concerns over the availability and timely issuance of vehicle number plates.

According to the statement, the first batch comprised 15,169 pairs of private vehicle number plates, 32 pairs of private fancy plates and four pairs of out-of-series plates.

The second batch included 1,998 pairs of private vehicle plates, 999 pairs of commercial vehicle plates, eight pairs of city government plates, 900 pairs of dealer plates and 450 pairs of articulated vehicle plates.

The Corps explained that the figures were released to promote transparency and provide accurate information on the production and distribution of number plates.

However, the FRSC acknowledged that motorists could still experience delays in collecting their plates even after completing the required vehicle registration procedures.

Ohaeri explained that dispatching number plates to registration authorities was separate from the administrative processes involved in issuing them to applicants.

He noted that while the availability of plates at the point of dispatch was essential, prompt issuance depended on effective coordination among the institutions responsible for the various stages of vehicle registration.

The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to collaborating with relevant government institutions, including state motor licensing authorities, to address operational challenges and improve service delivery.

He added that the Corps would continue engaging stakeholders to promote efficiency, transparency and accountability in the vehicle registration process.

The FRSC also advised motorists experiencing delays in collecting their number plates to contact the appropriate registration authorities for clarification.

The development comes amid concerns among vehicle owners over delays in obtaining number plates, despite completing the necessary registration requirements.
