Abia Extends Traffic Enforcement Operations To 10 p.m.
Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has directed the Abia State Traffic and Safety Management Agency (ARTSMA) and the Abia State Harmonised Taskforce to extend their daily operational hours to 10:00 p.m., including weekends, as part of efforts to improve road safety and traffic management across the state.
The governor also ordered the agencies to deploy additional personnel and resources along major roads to ensure traffic offenders are apprehended and sanctioned in accordance with the law.
Otti announced the directive on Thursday while unveiling the second batch of 20 electric buses at the Nnenna Oti Bus Terminal in Umuahia.
He warned motorists and other road users against reckless driving, impatience and poor judgment, stressing that anyone found endangering lives and property on Abia roads would face strict sanctions.
According to the governor, an independent monitoring team will be established to oversee the enforcement of the new directive and assess compliance by the traffic agencies.
He also urged drivers of the newly introduced electric buses to adhere to operational guidelines, avoid overloading and maintain high safety standards while providing transport services.
Otti noted that the commencement of operations at the Central Bus Terminal in Umuahia had improved orderliness within the state’s transport system. He added that the deployment of electric buses forms part of the government’s strategy to reduce environmental pollution from vehicle emissions while providing residents with a more affordable and efficient means of transportation.
