BUA Commits $65m To Upgrade Rivers Port Terminal

BUA Group has approved an investment of more than $65 million for the reconstruction and modernisation of Terminal B at the Rivers Port Complex in Port Harcourt, in a move aimed at boosting cargo handling capacity and improving port operations.

The project will be executed through BUA Ports and Terminals Nigeria Limited, the concessionaire managing Terminal B. The upgrade is expected to enhance operational efficiency, increase cargo throughput and improve service delivery for port users.

The investment was disclosed during a meeting between the Chairman of BUA Group, Abdul Samad Rabiu, and the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, where discussions centred on ongoing port reforms, infrastructure renewal and stronger collaboration between government and private sector stakeholders.

Rabiu commended the NPA for its commitment to improving operational efficiency and maintaining regular engagement with industry stakeholders. He noted that the Authority’s reforms and stable policy environment have strengthened investor confidence and encouraged long-term private sector investments in critical infrastructure.

He stressed that sustained collaboration and consistent reforms remain essential for attracting private capital into key sectors such as ports and logistics.

Responding, Dantsoho reaffirmed the NPA’s commitment to reforms aimed at making Nigeria’s ports more efficient and attractive to investors. He said the Authority remains focused on reducing vessel turnaround time, improving cargo evacuation and enhancing operational efficiency across the nation’s ports.

According to him, BUA’s investment demonstrates growing private sector confidence in the ongoing reforms within the maritime sector. He added that the terminal upgrade aligns with the Federal Government’s drive to modernise critical infrastructure through public-private partnerships.

Dantsoho further noted that investments of this nature would enhance trade, support industrialisation and unlock greater opportunities in Nigeria’s marine and blue economy.

He assured that the NPA would continue to provide an enabling environment for investments that improve service delivery and strengthen the country’s port infrastructure.
