Edo Communities Praise Benin-Akure Highway Reconstruction

Residents of communities along the Benin-Akure Highway in Edo State have commended ongoing efforts to improve road infrastructure, particularly the reconstruction of the highway, describing the project as a major boost to economic and social development in the area.

The communities expressed their appreciation during a courtesy visit to the Edo State Government in Benin City, where they were received by the Deputy Governor, Dennis Idahosa, on behalf of Governor Monday Okpebholo.

Speaking on behalf of the communities, the Secretary of Evboneka Community, Ekhoesuehi Cardinal, said the reconstruction project had brought relief to residents who had endured years of hardship caused by the poor condition of the road.

According to him, the rehabilitation of the highway is expected to improve transportation, enhance connectivity, and attract investment to communities along the corridor.

“The road rehabilitation is a welcome development, and we are confident it will open up the area for greater economic activities,” Cardinal said.

In his remarks, Idahosa described the Benin-Akure Highway reconstruction as a landmark infrastructure project capable of stimulating socio-economic growth across the state. He urged residents to support the contractors handling the project and take ownership of the initiative to ensure its successful completion.

He also called on the communities to continue supporting the administration of President Bola Tinubu to enable the state benefit from additional developmental programmes under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

“I advise the communities to own the project and cooperate with the contractors to ensure that the work is delivered according to schedule and specification,” the deputy governor said.

Also speaking, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Project Monitoring and Evaluation, Phoebe Williams-Bello, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring the successful execution and completion of the highway project and other critical infrastructure initiatives across the state.

The reconstruction of the Benin-Akure Highway is expected to improve mobility, facilitate trade, and enhance economic opportunities for residents and businesses within the affected communities.
