FERMA Commends Tinubu, Umahi Over Road Rehabilitation In Ebonyi

The Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of Works, David Umahi, for their efforts to improve federal road infrastructure in Ebonyi State.

The commendation was made during an inspection of ongoing remedial works on the Abakaliki–Ogoja road, a major route linking Ebonyi State with Cross River State.

The Progress Engineer of FERMA’s Ebonyi Field Office, Engineer Kelly Kweko, said the agency was addressing potholes and other failed sections along the road as part of its maintenance intervention.

According to him, the work also covers vegetation control and the rehabilitation of drainage channels and culverts to improve the road’s durability and drainage system.

Kweko explained that the agency had been cutting out damaged portions, cleaning them, applying tack coat, laying asphalt and compacting the repaired sections.

He described the Abakaliki–Ogoja road as a strategic route connecting communities across the Southeast, South-South and parts of the North-Central region.

He noted that the road was particularly important to Ebonyi State because of its role in transporting the state’s agricultural produce and mineral resources to neighbouring states.

Kweko said the route facilitates movement between Ebonyi and states including Cross River, Benue and Taraba, making its rehabilitation important to regional economic activities.

He attributed the ongoing intervention to the infrastructure development drive of the Tinubu administration under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

The FERMA official also commended Umahi for his role in ensuring the maintenance of federal roads in Ebonyi State.

He disclosed that FERMA had intervened on several other federal roads in the state, including the Abakaliki–Enugu State border road and the Abakaliki–Afikpo road.

According to him, the agency also repaired failed sections around the Sperendo Flyover, including areas above and below the flyover.

Kweko further said FERMA had rehabilitated a previously dangerous section of the Abakaliki–Afikpo road around the Mami Market axis, making the route safer for motorists and other road users.

He expressed optimism that the ongoing maintenance works would improve road safety, ease the movement of people and goods, and strengthen connectivity between Ebonyi and neighbouring states.
