FG Diverts Traffic On Lagos-Ibadan Expressway For Kara Bridge Repairs
The Federal Government has announced a temporary diversion of traffic on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway to allow repair works on the Kara Bridge.
In a travel advisory issued by the Federal Ministry of Works, the maintenance work will involve the replacement of damaged expansion joints on the outbound Lagos section of the bridge.
The Federal Controller of Works in Ogun State, Michael Komolafe, said the repair work is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, and will last for about two weeks, ending on March 24, 2026.
Motorists have been advised to use alternative routes during the repair period to reduce traffic congestion.
Drivers travelling from Ikorodu to Mowe, Sagamu and Ibadan are advised to pass through Shimawa or Mosinmi, while those coming from Lagos Island can take the Epe corridor through Ijebu-Ode to connect to Sagamu, Ibadan or Mowe.
The ministry also cautioned that shorter routes may not necessarily be faster and urged motorists to plan their journeys early, obey traffic management officials and drive carefully around the construction zone.
The Federal Ministry of Works apologised for any inconvenience the temporary closure may cause, noting that the repairs are necessary to ensure the safety and durability of the road infrastructure.
The government had earlier announced plans to carry out urgent repairs on expansion joints at Kara Bridge, Magboro Bridge and Arepo–Punch Bridge following concerns about their deteriorating condition.
