FG Reaffirms Commitment To Agge Deep Sea Port Project

The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to the actualisation of the Agge Deep Sea Port project in Bayelsa State, describing it as a strategic infrastructure initiative capable of boosting economic growth, creating jobs and attracting investments to the Niger Delta region.

Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, stated this in a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday, noting that the project remains a key priority under the Federal Government’s drive to unlock the potential of Nigeria’s marine and blue economy sector.

Oyetola said the development aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s economic agenda of promoting trade, industrialisation and sustainable development through transformative infrastructure projects.

According to him, the Agge Deep Sea Port is a critical component of efforts to expand Nigeria’s maritime infrastructure and enhance the country’s competitiveness in regional and international trade.

He said the project would contribute significantly to job creation, economic development and investment inflows into the Niger Delta.

The minister assured that the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy is working closely with the Bayelsa State Government and other stakeholders to ensure the project’s timely execution.

He noted that upon completion, the port would serve as a major maritime gateway in the South-South region, facilitate international trade, reduce congestion at existing ports and stimulate economic activities across the country.

Oyetola added that the project would generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs, attract local and foreign investments, and strengthen Nigeria’s position as a leading maritime hub in West Africa.

He also commended Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, for his commitment to the project and for aligning the state’s development priorities with the Federal Government’s marine and blue economy agenda.

The minister further highlighted opportunities the port would create in sectors such as logistics, fisheries, shipbuilding, maritime services and tourism, stressing that the project would open new avenues for sustainable economic growth and development.
