FRSC Begins RTSSS Enforcement In Abia, Targets Unregistered Fleet Operators

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has announced the commencement of its 2026 Road Transport Safety Standardisation Scheme (RTSSS) enforcement exercise in Abia State, with a renewed focus on improving compliance among fleet operators and reducing road traffic crashes.

The week-long enforcement campaign, scheduled to run from Monday, July 13, to Friday, July 17, is part of a nationwide initiative aimed at strengthening road safety standards and promoting safer transport operations across the country.

In a statement, the Abia State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Ngozi Ezeoma, said the exercise is in line with the directive of the Corps Marshal and is designed to enhance road safety rather than punish transport operators.

According to her, the enforcement will prioritise the registration of unregistered fleet operators, compliance with the installation of speed limiting devices, the use of approved passenger manifests, adherence to regulations by school bus operators, and increased use of RTSSS certification stickers.

Ezeoma disclosed that enforcement teams would conduct intensive patrols, public sensitisation campaigns and, where necessary, prosecute violators through mobile court sittings. She added that random drug and alcohol tests may also be carried out on drivers operating commercial fleet vehicles.

She assured residents that adequate personnel and operational resources had been deployed across strategic routes in the state to ensure effective enforcement, provide prompt rescue services where required, and minimise disruption to law-abiding motorists.

The sector commander urged fleet operators, transport companies, school bus operators and commercial drivers to use the enforcement period to regularise their operations and comply with all applicable road safety regulations.

She reiterated that the Road Transport Safety Standardisation Scheme is intended to promote professionalism in the transport sector, improve fleet safety management and safeguard the lives of motorists and passengers on Nigerian roads.
