FRSC Intensifies Patrols To Curb Ember Months Road Crashes

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Cross River Sector Command, has intensified patrols and enforcement activities across the state as part of measures to reduce road traffic crashes during the 2026 Ember Months.

The Sector Commander, Corps Commander Innocent Etuk, disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen in Calabar on Tuesday.

Etuk said the command had deployed strategic measures to address increased vehicular movement, congestion and indiscipline among road users during the festive period.

According to him, special intervention patrols have been strengthened along major highways, busy traffic corridors, crash-prone black spots and other strategic locations to improve monitoring, enforcement and emergency response.

He said the command would focus its enforcement on dangerous driving, speeding, overloading, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, use of mobile phones while driving and failure to use seat belts.

Other offences targeted, he added, include tyre-related violations, mechanically defective vehicles, number plate offences and other practices capable of endangering lives on the highways.

Etuk also disclosed that the FRSC had strengthened collaboration with the Cross River State Government, transport unions, security agencies, emergency responders, traditional institutions and local authorities.

He said the partnership would improve traffic management, intelligence sharing, emergency response and coordinated interventions throughout the Ember Months.

The sector commander said the command would also intensify public enlightenment campaigns through radio, television, social media, motor parks, town hall meetings, road shows and other platforms.

He added that personnel would be deployed to strategic intersections, entry and exit points, busy traffic corridors, motor parks and other areas expected to experience increased vehicular activity.

Etuk urged FRSC personnel to remain professional, disciplined, civil and responsive, stressing that the operation was aimed at saving lives, preventing crashes and ensuring smooth movement across the state.

He advised motorists to plan their journeys, avoid night travel where possible, get adequate rest before embarking on long trips and report dangerous driving through the FRSC toll-free line, 122.

The sector commander further urged motorists and other road users to obey traffic regulations and exercise caution throughout the Ember Months to ensure safer journeys across Cross River State.
