Governor Eno Commissions 4.8km Roads In Eket, Pledges More Infrastructure Projects

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has commissioned 4.8 kilometres of newly completed roads in Eket Local Government Area, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to delivering infrastructure projects that improve the lives of residents.

The commissioned projects include the 2.4-kilometre Ikot Akpa Ikpo–Urua Udo Inyang Road and the 2.4-kilometre internal road network at Mkpok Estate Phases One and Two.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremonies, Governor Eno said his administration remained focused on completing viable projects inherited from previous governments, especially those with significant economic and social benefits to the people.

He explained that the Ikot Akpa Ikpo–Urua Udo Inyang Road was inherited from a previous administration but was completed by his government due to its importance in connecting communities and supporting economic activities in Eket.

The governor disclosed that about 38 kilometres of road projects are currently ongoing across Eket Local Government Area at various stages of completion, adding that plans were underway to construct an additional 12 kilometres, which would increase the total length of road projects in the area to 50 kilometres.

Governor Eno described the Mkpok Estate road network as a special project, noting his personal connection to the area where he had lived and carried out business activities for several years.

He urged residents, particularly youths, to protect public infrastructure in their communities, while assuring that other ongoing projects, including the State Football Academy, would be completed.

The Commissioner for Works and Fire Service, Eno Ibanga, who provided an overview of the projects, said the roads were constructed with proper drainage systems to ensure durability and improve connectivity within the communities.

He commended Governor Eno for his commitment to infrastructure development and rural accessibility across the state.

Speaking on behalf of the people of Eket, Chairman of Eket Local Government Area, Akaninyene Tommey, expressed appreciation to the governor for what he described as impactful development projects.

Tommey noted that the Ikot Akpa Ikpo–Urua Udo Inyang Road would serve as an important link to several communities and provide easier access to the Urua Udo Inyang market.

During his visit to the area, Governor Eno also inspected ongoing construction works at the Afaha Atai and Iseyiridua road projects.
