Inuwa Seeks Faster Federal Road Projects For Gombe
GOMBE — Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has renewed calls for accelerated Federal Government intervention in major road projects across the state, describing the infrastructure as critical to economic growth and regional connectivity.
Yahaya made the appeal on Monday in Abuja during a meeting with the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, as part of efforts to secure faster implementation of strategic federal road projects in Gombe.
A statement by the Director-General, Press Affairs, Government House, Gombe, Ismaila Uba Misilli, said the meeting focused on improving road connectivity and unlocking opportunities in agriculture, commerce, industry and tourism.
A major issue discussed was the Gombe-Biu section of the Akwanga-Jos-Bauchi-Gombe-Biu-Maiduguri Super Highway, which was recently approved and flagged off by the Federal Government.
The governor has repeatedly called for the early commencement of construction on the Gombe-Biu axis, stressing its importance to Gombe State and the wider North-East region.
His advocacy followed the recent visit of Umahi to Gombe, where the minister joined the governor and members of the National Assembly for the groundbreaking ceremony of the project.
Yahaya also urged the Federal Government to sustain the momentum and commence full-scale construction to ensure timely completion of the highway.
Another major request was the construction of northern and southern bypasses for Gombe metropolis. The governor said the proposed bypasses would improve access to the state capital, decongest existing roads and strengthen connections to the Gombe-Biu corridor.
Responding, Umahi described the Gombe-Biu axis as a priority project of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and assured the governor that his request for construction to commence from the proposed point of interest would receive due consideration.
The minister also expressed confidence in Hitech Construction Company, the contractor handling the project, describing the firm as one of the competent companies executing major infrastructure projects in the country.
Umahi commended Yahaya for his sustained advocacy and commitment to infrastructure development in Gombe State.
He further acknowledged the governor’s efforts to secure the rehabilitation and reconstruction of other strategic highways linking Gombe with neighbouring states and major economic centres.
The roads include the Gombe-Bajoga-Potiskum, Gombe-Dukku-Darazo and Gombe-Bauchi corridors.
According to the minister, the Federal Government remains committed to delivering the Gombe-Biu project, while its completion is expected to improve movement of people and goods, strengthen regional trade and support agricultural and industrial activities across Gombe and the wider North-East.
The renewed engagement between the state and Federal Government is expected to strengthen collaboration on road infrastructure and facilitate greater economic opportunities across Gombe State.
