Kano Governor Enforces Traffic Rules, Vows Stronger Road Safety Measures

KANO — Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, on Monday personally monitored traffic compliance at the Kofar Fanfo Junction, where he spent more than an hour directing motorists and ensuring adherence to traffic light regulations.

The governor, accompanied by the Secretary to the State Government, commissioners and other senior officials, supervised the exercise as part of efforts to restore order and discipline on roads across the state.

Speaking during the exercise, Yusuf urged motorists, commercial drivers, tricycle operators and pedestrians to obey traffic laws, stressing that compliance with traffic signals is critical to protecting lives and property.

He announced plans to strengthen the Kano Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA), saying the agency would be repositioned to operate as a professional traffic management body focused on improving road safety and enforcing traffic regulations.

According to the governor, the agency will be equipped to enhance traffic control, ensure compliance with road rules and promote responsible road use across the state.

Yusuf also expressed concern over the disregard for the newly installed traffic lights by some road users, describing the attitude as unacceptable considering the significant investment made in the infrastructure.

He directed relevant authorities to closely monitor and sanction traffic offenders, warning that the traffic light system should not be reduced to mere decorative installations.

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building a safer, more orderly and efficient transportation system for residents of Kano State.
