Katsina Begins N5.4bn Mashi Road Dualisation Project

Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has flagged off the construction and dualisation of a 3-kilometre township road in Mashi Local Government Area as part of efforts to improve transportation, road safety and economic activities in the state.

The project, valued at N5.4 billion, will be executed by Mothercat Nigeria Limited under the supervision of the Katsina State Ministry of Works, Housing and Transport.

Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony, Governor Radda described the project as a strategic investment aimed at easing traffic congestion, enhancing access to markets and stimulating economic growth in the area.

He noted that Mashi serves as a major commercial hub in Katsina State, attracting traders, farmers and transporters from within and outside the state, adding that increased commercial activities have placed significant pressure on the existing road infrastructure, particularly along the Katsina–Daura corridor.

According to the governor, the dualised road will improve traffic flow, reduce travel time and transportation costs, enhance road safety and provide a more conducive environment for businesses. He added that the project would also support agricultural activities, create employment opportunities, attract investment and improve the quality of life for residents.

Radda said the initiative aligns with his administration’s “Building Your Future” agenda and urban renewal programme, which prioritise the construction and rehabilitation of critical road infrastructure across the state.

He urged the contractor to deliver the project in line with approved specifications and within the stipulated timeframe, while appealing to residents to remain patient throughout the construction period.

The governor also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to prudent management of public resources and the delivery of infrastructure projects that promote sustainable development.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Works, Housing and Transport, Engr. Magaji Sani Ingawa, said the project demonstrates the administration’s commitment to infrastructure development and economic transformation.

He explained that the road project includes solar-powered street lighting, reinforced drainage systems, pedestrian walkways and other road safety features built to approved engineering standards.

Ingawa noted that the growing volume of traffic generated by Mashi’s commercial market has outpaced the capacity of the existing road network, making the dualisation necessary to improve mobility and support economic activities.

He assured residents that the ministry would closely supervise the project to ensure compliance with approved standards and timely completion.

Speaking on behalf of the contractor, Abdulrasheed Jami’u of Mothercat Nigeria Limited expressed appreciation to the Katsina State Government for awarding the contract and pledged to deliver a durable road that meets all quality specifications within the agreed schedule.
