Lagos Announces Three-Week Closure Of Oke-Afa Bridge For Repairs

The Lagos State Government has announced the temporary closure of Oke-Afa Bridge in Isolo for three weeks to allow rehabilitation works to be carried out on the structure.

The closure will take effect from Friday, August 28, and last until September 18, 2026, according to a traffic management plan signed by the state Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi.

The rehabilitation will be carried out in two phases.

The first phase, scheduled for August 28 to September 11, will affect the outbound Isolo-to-Ejigbo section of the bridge. During this period, motorists travelling from Isolo towards Ejigbo will be diverted onto the Isolo-bound carriageway from Pako Roundabout.

Traffic will operate in both directions on the diverted carriageway before rejoining the main carriageway at Mobil Filling Station.

Motorists travelling from Ejigbo will retain free movement and share the carriageway with Ejigbo-bound traffic between Mobil Filling Station and Pako Roundabout, after which they will regain full access to the road.

The second phase, which will run from September 12 to September 18, will affect the inbound Ejigbo-to-Isolo section.

Under the arrangement, motorists travelling from Ejigbo towards Isolo will be diverted onto the Ejigbo-bound carriageway from Mobil Filling Station, with traffic moving in both directions before reconnecting with the main carriageway at Pako Roundabout.

Similarly, motorists coming from Isolo will maintain free movement and share the carriageway with Isolo-bound traffic between Pako Roundabout and Mobil Filling Station before returning to the normal route.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority will deploy personnel to the area to manage traffic and reduce congestion throughout the rehabilitation period.

The government also said an emergency tow vehicle would be stationed within the axis to quickly remove broken-down vehicles and minimise disruptions.

The state government appealed to motorists to cooperate with traffic officials and exercise patience during the temporary closure, noting that the diversion forms part of measures to facilitate the rehabilitation of Oke-Afa Bridge in Isolo Local Government Area.
