Lagos Extends Free Eye Screening and Health Checks to NDLEA Officers

The Lagos State Government has extended its free eye screening, corrective lenses and comprehensive health checks to officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Lagos Strategic Command, in recognition of the agency’s collaboration during the recently concluded Drivers’ Care Initiative.

The gesture follows the successful completion of the first phase of the Drivers’ Care Programme, implemented through the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Transportation and Logistics.

The initiative offered professional drivers across the state free eye screening, prescription glasses, drug testing and sensitisation exercises, carried out in partnership with the NDLEA.

The state government had earlier extended similar medical outreach to the Nigeria Police Force, with about 1,000 police officers benefiting from free eye screening and corrective lenses under the Sanwo-Olu Police Care Initiative.

Speaking at the flag-off of the programme for NDLEA officers in Lagos, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Transportation and Logistics, Hassan Adekoya, said the extension of the medical outreach underscored the government’s appreciation of the NDLEA’s strategic support during the Drivers’ Care Programme, which he noted had positively impacted thousands of professional drivers across the state.

Adekoya reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to prioritising the welfare and well-being of residents, particularly transport operators, and urged transport unions and fleet owners to ensure drivers do not operate vehicles under the influence of illicit substances, in the interest of public safety.

Also speaking at the event, the Assistant Commander General of Narcotics, Lagos Strategic Command, Abubakar Liman Wali, commended the state government for the initiative and reiterated the NDLEA’s commitment to sustained collaboration with Lagos State to promote a drug-free society and a safer road environment.
