Lagos Taskforce Arrests 46 Suspects, Recovers Dane Gun, Drugs In Fresh Crackdown

The Lagos State Taskforce has arrested 46 suspected criminals during a coordinated enforcement operation across several parts of the state as part of its ongoing campaign to rid Lagos of criminal elements and environmental offenders.

The operation, which commenced at about 9:00 a.m. on Friday, covered Muri-Okunola Park in Victoria Island, Obalende Underbridge, Law School Junction, Maroko, Sandfill by Mobil Bus Stop, and Marwa Bus Stop along the Lekki-Epe Expressway.

According to the agency, the suspects were arrested for alleged involvement in criminal activities, including street trading, illegal ticketing, drug peddling, illegal commercial motorcycle operations, and other environmental and traffic-related offences.

Items recovered during the exercise included substances suspected to be Indian hemp, Colorado and cannabis, a UTC cutlass, and a locally fabricated dane gun designed in the form of a pistol but said to be incapable of firing live ammunition.

The agency said normalcy had been restored in all the affected locations following the operation.

Speaking at the agency’s headquarters, Chairman of the Lagos State Taskforce, CSP Adetayo Akerele, reiterated the agency’s commitment to sustaining enforcement operations across the state, stressing that criminal elements would not be allowed any breathing space.

He added that all the arrested suspects would be prosecuted in accordance with the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law, 2017, and the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, 2018.
