Lagos To Close Iddo Bridge For Five Days Over Installation Of Steel Beams
LAGOS – The Lagos State Government has announced the temporary closure of the Iddo Bridge in Ijora, Apapa Local Government Area, for five days to facilitate the installation of heavy steel bridge beams as part of the ongoing rehabilitation and reconstruction of the bridge.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed the development on Tuesday, urging motorists and residents to cooperate with traffic management officials and exercise patience during the period of the closure.
According to Osiyemi, the bridge will be shut to vehicular movement at specific periods beginning from June 17, 2026. He explained that the operation would commence from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. on June 17 and continue until June 21, with another closure scheduled from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
He said the temporary restriction of movement is necessary to ensure the safe installation of the steel beams, which form a critical component of the ongoing reconstruction works.
“The closure is part of the traffic management measures put in place to facilitate the launching of steel beams for the ongoing rehabilitation and reconstruction of Iddo Bridge by the Federal Ministry of Works through the Office of the Federal Controller of Works, Lagos,” Osiyemi stated.
The state government appealed to motorists to use alternative routes where necessary and comply with directives from traffic officials to minimise disruptions during the exercise.
