LASEMA Clears Three Major Road Incidents, Restores Traffic Flow In Lagos

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has successfully responded to and cleared three separate road incidents across Lagos, with no fatalities recorded.

The incidents, which occurred in the early hours of Saturday, took place at Olupese Bus Stop, Aswani Bus Stop, and Oba Ogunji Road. Emergency responders, including LASEMA, the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), and the Nigeria Police, worked together to manage the situations, provide medical assistance where necessary, and restore the free flow of traffic.

According to a statement issued by Afolabi Olawale, Head of Public Affairs at LASEMA, on behalf of the agency’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, the first incident involved a truck carrying granite whose rear tyre became trapped in a pothole near Olupese Bus Stop, obstructing traffic towards Oshodi.

LASEMA’s Eagle Response Team deployed heavy-duty recovery equipment to remove the truck after preliminary investigations indicated that the poor condition of the road contributed to the incident. No casualties or injuries were recorded, while traffic was diverted to minimise disruption during recovery operations.

At Aswani Bus Stop, inward Iyana Isolo, a Toyota Sienna with registration number ABJ-515DQ collided with an oncoming truck, causing the truck to veer off and become lodged on a culvert, obstructing the roadway.

Three occupants of the Sienna—two adult women and one adult man—sustained injuries. Emergency medical teams from LASEMA, LASAMBUS and other responders treated the victims at the scene before transporting them to a nearby hospital for further medical care. Traffic was diverted, while a private towing service was engaged to recover the affected vehicles.

In the third incident on Oba Ogunji Road, a Ministry of Environment concrete mixer truck collided with a green Volkswagen bus bearing registration number FKJ 424KA.

Preliminary findings attributed the crash to excessive speed by the Volkswagen bus. No injuries or fatalities were reported. LASEMA officials secured the area, carried out on-site mechanical repairs on the mixer truck, and towed both vehicles off the road, allowing normal traffic to resume. The Volkswagen bus was subsequently released to its owner.

Commending the swift response of all emergency agencies, Oke-Osanyintolu praised their professionalism and coordination in ensuring public safety.

He also urged motorists to obey traffic regulations, avoid speeding, and promptly report damaged roads to the appropriate authorities.

According to him, the Lagos State Government remains committed to reducing road accidents and improving emergency response through continued investment in equipment, personnel training and inter-agency collaboration.
