Female Motorist Dies In Lone Crash As LASTMA Urges Speed Limit Compliance

A female motorist has died in a lone road accident at Mongoro, inward Ile-Zik, along a major route in Lagos after her vehicle reportedly veered off the road and crashed into a building.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) disclosed the incident in a statement issued on Sunday by its Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq.

According to the agency, preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased was driving a Toyota Sienna, with registration number LND 162 HB, when she lost control of the vehicle, causing it to leave the roadway and ram into a roadside structure.

LASTMA said the impact of the crash killed the driver instantly. She was the only occupant of the vehicle.

The agency stated that its officers on routine patrol responded promptly to the scene after receiving reports of the accident. Traffic safety cones were deployed to secure the area, while vehicular movement was diverted to prevent secondary crashes and ensure the smooth flow of traffic during recovery operations.

It added that although the incident caused temporary traffic disruption, normal traffic was restored after evacuation and traffic management activities were completed.

Police officers attached to the Afonka Police Post under the Shasha Divisional Police Headquarters also provided security throughout the emergency response and remained at the scene until the operation was concluded.

Reacting to the incident, the General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, described the fatal crash as a painful reminder of the dangers of excessive speeding and reckless driving.
He urged motorists to exercise patience, obey traffic regulations, and avoid speeding, stressing that no destination is worth the loss of human life.

Bakare-Oki also advised drivers to ensure their vehicles are in good mechanical condition before embarking on any journey, noting that any vehicle that develops a fault should be withdrawn from the road until necessary repairs have been carried out.

LASTMA extended its condolences to the family of the deceased and prayed for the strength to bear the loss.
