LASEMA Prevents Traffic Gridlock, Contains Warehouse Fire In Lagos

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has successfully responded to two separate incidents in the early hours of Tuesday, preventing a potential traffic gridlock and containing a fire outbreak in different parts of the state.

The Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday.

According to him, the first incident occurred at about 12:57 a.m. at Bishop Bus Stop, inward Mushin, where a truck broke down and tilted across the carriageway, obstructing vehicular movement.

He said LASEMA’s Alpha Eagle Response Team was immediately deployed to the scene, where responders diverted approaching traffic to prevent further incidents while awaiting the agency’s heavy-duty recovery vehicle, Super Metro.

The truck was subsequently recovered and moved to a nearby layby within two hours, restoring normal traffic flow along the route.

Oke-Osanyintolu said no casualty was recorded in the incident.

Barely two hours later, at about 3:38 a.m., LASEMA received another distress call over a fire outbreak at Adawama Estate, Raji Rasaki Bus Stop, in the Amuwo Odofin area of Lagos.

The Alpha Eagle Team arrived at the scene approximately 20 minutes after receiving the alert and discovered that a warehouse containing solar batteries and inverters had been engulfed by fire.

The cause of the fire, according to the agency, had yet to be determined as of the time of the report.

LASEMA responders, working alongside the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and the Lagos Response Unit, successfully contained the fire and prevented it from spreading further.

No lives were lost in the incident.

The LASEMA boss commended the emergency responders for their swift intervention, professionalism and effective inter-agency collaboration, noting that their efforts ensured that both incidents were brought under control without loss of life.

He also appreciated members of the public for providing timely information and complying with safety instructions at the affected locations.

Oke-Osanyintolu reiterated LASEMA’s commitment to maintaining round-the-clock emergency readiness across Lagos, while urging residents to prioritise vehicle maintenance and exercise caution in the storage of combustible materials.

He further encouraged residents to promptly report emergencies through the agency’s toll-free lines to facilitate rapid intervention.

LASEMA, he added, would continue to work towards building a more resilient Lagos where emergencies are managed promptly and professionally.
