LBSL Bus Destroyed by Fire on Third Mainland Bridge, No Casualties Recorded
OLORUNDARE ENIMOLA, Lagos
A bus operated by Lagos Bus Services Limited (LBSL) was destroyed by fire on Tuesday afternoon along the Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos, without any loss of life or injuries, the company has confirmed.
The incident occurred at about 1:00 p.m. on the Obalende–Oshodi axis of the bridge and involved an LBSL bus with identification code 240057. The vehicle was reportedly engulfed by fire despite efforts by good Samaritans and emergency responders to contain the blaze.
In a statement issued by the company, LBSL said all passengers and crew members were safely evacuated, noting that no casualties were recorded.
Reacting to the incident, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of LBSL, Mr. Idowu Oguntona, said the company has launched a comprehensive investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
“The safety of our passengers remains our utmost priority, and we take this incident very seriously,” Oguntona said. “We are grateful that no lives were lost and no injuries sustained.”
He also expressed appreciation to individuals who assisted during the emergency, including the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, for his intervention at the scene.
LBSL assured the public that findings from the investigation would be made available and that appropriate measures would be implemented to prevent a recurrence.
The company reiterated its commitment to providing safe, reliable and efficient public transportation services to residents of Lagos State.
