Osogbo Resident Urges Adeleke To Address Bad Roads, Poor Sanitation

A resident of Osogbo, Osun State, Oluwaseyi Peter, has appealed to Governor Ademola Adeleke to urgently rehabilitate deteriorating roads and strengthen environmental sanitation across the state capital.

Peter made the appeal in a letter to the governor, highlighting the worsening condition of several major roads and the growing incidence of indiscriminate refuse disposal in residential, commercial and market areas across the metropolis.

While acknowledging the state government’s efforts towards infrastructural development in Osun, particularly in Osogbo and other local government areas, he urged the administration to intensify its interventions to address challenges affecting residents and businesses.

According to him, the deplorable condition of several roads has made movement difficult for motorists, residents and business owners, with potholes and damaged road surfaces posing safety risks and increasing vehicle maintenance and repair costs.

He stressed the need for urgent rehabilitation of the affected routes to improve mobility and ensure the safety of road users.

Among the roads identified for intervention are the routes from Aje Market through Dada Estate to Capital Area and Oke-Fia, as well as Orita Olaiya through Ogo Oluwa to Owode Road.

Others include Oja Oba–Ita Olokan–Ayepe Road and the stretch from Orita Ayetoro through Testing Ground to Powerline Junction.

Peter also listed the road from Lamaco Overhead Bridge through WOCDIF, Winners Junction, An-Nurudeen Grammar School and Ayekale Road to Koko Area along Ikirun Road, as well as the route linking Winners Junction through Oke Onitea to Igbona Area.

He further identified the section between the railway crossing at Old Garage, near Lagos/Ibadan Motor Park, and Dugbe Police Station as requiring attention.

The road from First Bank Station Road through LAUTECH Teaching Hospital towards Ajegunle Junction and Igbona Road was also included among the areas needing rehabilitation.

Describing the listed routes as only a fraction of the roads requiring attention, Peter called on the state government to undertake a comprehensive assessment of major road networks across Osogbo and introduce sustainable maintenance programmes to prevent further deterioration.

Beyond road infrastructure, the resident expressed concern over poor waste management, alleging that indiscriminate dumping of refuse had become widespread in several parts of the state capital.

He explained that scavengers and strong winds often scatter improperly disposed waste before it is evacuated, leaving streets littered and creating an unpleasant environment for residents and visitors.

Peter warned that the situation could worsen environmental pollution and expose residents to public health risks, including the spread of diseases.

To address the problem, he recommended that the state government declare an environmental sanitation emergency in Osogbo, strengthen refuse evacuation systems and deploy mobile waste collection trucks to designated locations at scheduled times daily.

He also advocated stricter enforcement of existing environmental laws, public awareness campaigns targeting residents, traders and market women, as well as increased monitoring by environmental health officers and local government sanitation departments.

According to him, a coordinated approach to road rehabilitation and waste management would improve residents’ quality of life, support economic activities, enhance public safety and preserve the dignity of Osogbo as the state capital.

Peter urged Governor Adeleke and relevant government agencies to give the concerns urgent attention, expressing hope that decisive action would improve infrastructure and environmental standards in Osogbo and other parts of Osun State.
