Mararaba-Nyanya Flyover, Road To Be Completed In December

The Nasarawa State Government has said the ongoing construction of the 2.6-kilometre Mararaba-Nyanya Flyover and adjoining road project will be completed by December 2026.

The Managing Director of the Nasarawa State Urban Development Board, Wada Yahaya, disclosed this during an inspection tour of major infrastructure projects in the state by the Renewed Hope Ambassadors National Media Tour team.

Yahaya said the project was designed to ease the persistent traffic congestion in Mararaba, improve travel time and strengthen connectivity between Nasarawa State and the Federal Capital Territory.

He explained that the project comprises two flyover bridges and an elevated road stretching about 2.6 kilometres, alongside five pedestrian bridges to facilitate safer movement across the busy corridor.

According to him, the project is expected to provide a lasting solution to the traffic challenges in Mararaba without disrupting commercial activities in the area.

“There were several attempts to solve this traffic problem in Mararaba, but at the end of the day, Governor Abdullahi Sule came up with the final solution, which is to provide a continuous flyover of 2.6 kilometres over the challenging area,” Yahaya said.

He disclosed that the construction alone would cost the state government nearly ₦40 billion, while compensation to affected property owners was estimated at more than ₦1.1 billion.

He added that road furniture, including road markings, signages and streetlights, would cost more than ₦1 billion, bringing the total projected expenditure on the project to between ₦43 billion and ₦44 billion.

Yahaya said the completed project was expected to significantly reduce travel time between Abuja and Keffi, from more than two hours to less than 40 minutes.

He also said the project would boost economic activities in Mararaba and other parts of Nasarawa State by improving traffic flow and facilitating the movement of people and goods.

The inspection team also visited other road infrastructure projects in the state, including the completed Lafia Flyover, Underpass and Interchange, as well as the Total Flyover Bridge and Underpass in Keffi.

The Akwanga Interchange and Underpass, another major investment in urban mobility, was also inspected by the team.

The projects are part of the state government’s efforts to improve road infrastructure, address traffic congestion and enhance connectivity across major urban centres in Nasarawa State.

The state government reiterated its commitment to delivering the Mararaba-Nyanya project within the December 2026 completion timeline.
