OLORUNDARE ENIMOLA, Lagos
The National Association of Seadogs Worldwide, Galleon Bay Deck, has commissioned a major educational intervention project at LEA Primary School, Mpape, Abuja, aimed at improving learning conditions and access to basic facilities for pupils in the community.
The intervention, estimated at about N100 million, involved the renovation and furnishing of three classroom blocks comprising nine classrooms, rehabilitation of a solar-powered borehole system, and distribution of 844 school uniforms and educational materials to pupils.
The project was executed in collaboration with development partners and stakeholders to address longstanding infrastructural challenges, inadequate learning facilities, and poor access to clean water affecting pupils in the school and surrounding community.
The commissioning ceremony attracted education administrators, development partners, community leaders, and members of the association, with pupils entertaining guests through cultural dances, drama presentations, and speeches.
The Capoon of the association, Avua Joe Oteri, formally commissioned the renovated facilities alongside the Director General of the Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute, Prof. Samson Duna, who was represented by the Director of Consultancy and Extension Services, Chief Faniel Makava.
Speakers at the event commended NAS-Galleon Bay Deck for its commitment to human capital development and community impact through education, noting that the intervention would significantly improve the learning environment for pupils.
They added that the project would not only provide better infrastructure but also restore confidence and hope among children learning under difficult conditions.
Among dignitaries present were the Executive Secretary of the Bwari Local Education Authority, Mr. Tanko Isuwa, and representatives of the Universal Basic Education Board, including the Director of Primary School Services, Mallam Jibrin Danlami.
Other partners also supported the initiative. The Patient Okoegiri Educational Foundation donated 3,000 branded exercise books, while the International Book Project provided storybooks for senior primary school pupils.
Similarly, the Dannonmbi Care Foundation and the Segun Obayendo Foundation joined members of NAS Worldwide to support the “Kit-a-Child Initiative,” through which 844 school uniforms were distributed to pupils.
Stakeholders described the project as a major contribution toward improving access to quality education and promoting sustainable community development in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
